We are following a design research framework to structure our project called modes of transitions, which helps designers to explicitly address transitions in the design process.
Modes of Transitions: Themes of Routine, Performance, Ritual, and Narrative acting as Strategies
To harmonize and integrate people in transitions, modes of transitions function as design strategies. These four-frame-constructs provide a design process for exploring themes in a given context. In the understanding phase, the researcher investigates the transitional situation as routine, performance, ritual, and narratives and identifies the emerging themes. Once understanding phase is completed, the framework functions as principles for designers to create scenarios and solutions for the design. This framework encompasses scenarios both for the design exploration and the design refinement phases. For the design exploration, scenarios function as part of investigation, whereas in the refinement, they function as part of the resolution, helping people to build strategies for habitual change.
